About
There has been a church on this site in Folkingham since the 12th century. The building seen today dates largely from the 14th century, with further restoration carried out in the 19th century. It features early Decorated-style arcades, a chancel that is mainly Early English in character, and a Norman pier marking the site of a former opening into a chantry chapel. The church also houses the remains of stocks and a whipping post.
A vaulted porch leads into the church, with a room above it that contains a fireplace. Among the church's most notable features is the elaborately carved wooden chancel screen, dating from the 15th century.
The church is dedicated to St Andrew, reflecting the influence of St Gilbert of Sempringham, whose great medieval monastery lies just a few miles away.
St Andrew's has served as an important centre of the community for hundreds of years, and continues to do so today — hosting regular worship, weddings, baptisms, and funerals, alongside concerts, recitals, and art and history exhibitions. It remains a hub of interest for locals and visitors alike, drawn from far and wide.
The churchyard contains the Commonwealth War Graves of two soldiers who fell in the First World War.
Located just off the market square via Church Lane, the church stands as the focal point of the village.
